Ever since the Pikmins mysteriously arrived in New Meridian, I've been trying to make friends with them, but they're always afraid of me. They must think I'm a predatory hunter. Today, I'm trying a different approach. When I spot three Yellow Pikmins hiding near some flowers, I lie down on the ground and meow. The Pikmins stay hidden. I meow louder. The three Pikmins don't come out of hiding.
"Okay." I say, smiling. "You're playing hard to get. In that case, I'll do the sleeping cat."
I curl up in a ball, close my eyes and purr incessantly. I wait. One, two, then five minutes pass. Suddenly, I feel something touching, gently tugging at my right ear. Without moving my body, I open my eyes. The three Yellow Pikmins are there. One of them holds my ear with one of his hands. They see that my eyes are open. The Pikmin holding my right ear let it go. They freeze, staring at me. I look back at them. We stare at each other, motionless, for what seems like minutes, then the Pikmins make sounds.
"Hi." I say softly in return.
The Yellow Pikmins relaxed. Their bodies move gently. I raise my head slowly and am surprised to hear a "meow" from a Pikmin.
"Huh? Did you make a meow?" I asked the Pikmin in question.
He makes another meow, the other two Yellow Pikmin imitate him, and I'm cramped with laughter. Pikmins meowing! It's so funny. The Yellow Pikmins keep meowing, I keep laughing and we've been friends ever since.
